Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey
Widespread, severe damage occurred all along the coast of New Jersey during hurricane Sandy on October 29 & 30, 2012.
Vast majority of damage was caused by rampaging flood water from ocean and ocean-suppiled bay areas.
Photos below show just small sample of results;
Destroyed oceanfront houses; Mantoloking NJ
Normandy Beach, Toms River NJ
Houses severely damaged and moved by floodwater.
Collapsed foundation wall for small bungalow on bayside; Seaside Heights NJ
Front porch destroyed; Ocean Avenue, Belmar NJ
South end of Long Beach Island, NJ. Lower levels of oceanfront houses completely destroyed by flood water. However, relatively new pile-supported houses performed as intended, preventing total collapse. "Breakaway" walls around lower levels gave way, allowing water to flow under each house. Severe erosion of sand occurred under houses.
